Review 4/13/2010
I just turned 50 in November 2009. I am a nurse and had worked in the Operating room for 21 1/2 years until a final back injury , in April of 2006, forced me to stop working. The first injury was in March 1990. I had severe lower back pain that radiated down my left leg all the way to my foot. I had difficulty walking and had difficulty lifting my leg to get into the car to go home that day. A few years later I was again at work lifting an item and as I straightened to an upright position, I felt a pop in my lower back and a sharp pain, I fell to the floor because my left leg had given out. The last time was a fall on a freshly waxed floor on my way to an emergency situation. As you can see I have a chronic back problem. I have had epidurals, some have worked others, not, I have epidural steroid facet injections, radio-frequency ablation of nerves, muscle relaxers, pain medications escalating to heavy duty narcotics, and physical therapy of many different degrees. I came across the Non-Surgical Spine Care center at a business expo. It sounded interesting but I was VERY skeptical due to my surgical background. On my consultation I found the office and staff to be very helpful, professional, and friendly. Thanks to their therapy and decompression treatments I have my life back. I am up on my feet and back to my old self. I never thought I would see this day. I was had bulging discs at 2 levels and mechanical dissociation issues that were going to require multilevel fusions. I was flat on my back most of the time in a severe depression, not to mention the effects of all that on my ever supportive husband and family. Back pain takes its toll on the entire family. I absolutely refused to have surgery. I am thankful that I had the non-surgical therapy rather than a multilevel fusion with hardware in my back. (There's no guarantee on those surgeries either and unfortunately you can come out in even worse shape than when you went in) Knowing I have a maintenance program is crucial to me. They don't just throw you out once your course of treatment is finished, they are there for life. I have so much less pain, and on some days I have none! I'm now facing my life again, and it's wonderful to be on my feet and functioning again without debilitating pain!!!
