Review 4/12/2010
I'm writing this review to express how deeply offended I am with the POOR customer service we were given with our visit yesterday. We purchased a sofa set from this company several years back and thought we'd pay them another visit this time because we were looking for a new bed (full size) for my 6-year-old son. This was our 2nd stop looking for a new bed and yes, I did notice their sign asking parents to supervise their children and to keep them from "jumping" on the furniture. Here's my issue:

My wife and I walked in with our two kids (11 year old daughter and 6 year old son). We are very respectful of other people's property and our kids are very well-behaved. They know not to run in the store, mind their manners, etc. Since the bed was for my son, we had him try out a few mattresses. At each one my wife and I supervised him and even assisted him by lifting him up on the mattress so he can lay down on them and try it out for firmness. Before I go on, I'd like to point out that some of the mattresses were already dirty and only some of them had a plastic protective film for people to prop their feet on. For the ones without the plastic protection, we would have him lay on it but have his feet dangle off the mattress. When he was done, we'd help him get up and repeat the process for the next mattresses.

After about the 5th mattress, a man working for this company walked up to us and starting yelling at us to have our kids get off the furniture and immediately tells my wife and I to "discipline" our kids. Naturally, I told him there's no need to discipline them because they weren't doing anything wrong. He then proceeds to tell me that they shouldn't be jumping on the furniture. I looked at him (confused of course) and told him that we were there to buy a bed for my son and he was trying out the mattresses, with us already there supervising him. His only comment back (which was a pretty weak argument) was that "kids can't be jumping on the furniture and you need to discipline them." I kept my composure and asked him how are we supposed to buy a mattress for my son if he can't try it out. I then also pointed out the fact that some of the mattresses had the plastic protection for people to put their feet on, so what were WE doing wrong? Again, all he could say was, "That doesn't matter. Discipline your kids." By now, my wife and I had enough and told him, "Thank you. We'll be leaving now." and started walking out of the store. He proceeds to follow us out of the store, yelling the whole way. His last comment to us, which is blatantly uncalled for was, "Your kids may be able to jump on the furniture at home, but they can't do it here."

After hearing that comment I did what any parent would do and stopped, turned around and walked back to him and told him, "Let me just stop you right there. You have no right to make a comment like that. My kids are very good kids. They mind their manners, they are high achievers in school and are great role models. They did everything they were supposed to do with this visit to your store." He had no comment after that because I walked away and got in the car.

I found out later that this company was BBB-accredited, but there's no point filing a complaint because I'm not seeking anything tangible in return. I still believe in the BBB and use their services all of the time. My faith in this company is gone. We were ready to spend about $400 to $600 with them that day, but a nearby furniture store earned our business instead. I know this company responds to customer reviews and I just hope that if they do respond, they address my concerns with something better than "discipline your kids", especially when our kids did nothing wrong. Try explaining that to a 6-year-old because he was very cautious with subsequent visits to other furniture stores after that experience.

If the man yelling at us was the owner of the company, well I guess there's nothing that can be done. However, if he isn't the owner, I would hope that this company finds this review as an eye-opener about the customer service (or lack thereof) that's being provided by this gentleman. All I can tell you is that he appears to be of Middle Eastern descent with black hair and a mustache. I am just appalled by the whole ordeal. If you expect customers to pay over $400 for furniture, they should at least be able to try them out before making the purchase. It's just good business practice. You don't expect to buy shoes or purchase a new car without trying several out first. We had no problems with any furniture stores in the area.
